Welcome! I'm Judy McCarty Kuhn, and I love to write. I've tried nearly every genre: novels, short stories, anecdotes, poems, memoirs, news stories, letters, editorials, blogs, and even a play and a cookbook! The novels were the most challenging; the short stories were the most fun; and the cookbook was the hardest to proofread.

NEWS AND EVENTS

To all who downloaded A Magic Nation Christmas: Hope you enjoyed my Christmas book! When I published it, I was certain that I had no more Christmas stories to tell. Then, this year, I had an experience worth telling.

On December 22, we celebrated Christmas with my son and his family. Great day--skiing in the morning; Willie’s Restaurant for lunch; my house for gifts, games, baking, and cookies in the afternoon. The three kids (grandsons 17 and 15, and granddaughter 11) were smiling all day. No falls on the slopes, great weather, good food and service, perfect gifts!

By about 5:00, all were exhausted. The family packed up their car with all the goodies. When the 15-year-old started to walk out the front door, two birds––little wrens––flew in the house! My grandson waved his jacket; one bird flew out; he shut the front door. Then, we were all running around trying to get the other one out.

Our home has very high ceilings and a second floor loft. The house is extremely open. That little bird loved it. The oldest boy managed to shut every door inside the house. My husband got a fish net. My daughter-in-law is tall and agile, so she was upstairs trying to net the bird. She had him twice, but he broke through the net both times. She climbed on the sofa up there and almost had him when he flew to a ceiling fan. He left the fan, flew downstairs, and nestled inside our Christmas tree!

Meanwhile, we were all pointing, laughing, and shouting; the 11 year old was giving explicit instructions how to hold a bird without hurting it; and my husband was back in the garage looking for another fishnet.

We lightly shook the tree, and the wren flew on to inspect our kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the bird flew to a chandelier in the hallway by the front door. My son turned off the light and turned the porch light on. The bird headed to the front door; the 15-year-old opened it wide; and Christopher Wren flew home! We all cheered.

Just then, my husband emerged from the garage with more nets. We laughed so hard that we could hardly tell him the bird was out. It will be a Christmas to remember! I wish we could have taped it.

Happy New Year!

Books and Me

For years, I served as a high school teacher and  source to those seeking inspiration, help, or advice. I finally decided to write about my own experiences in our  magical world. Previously, I focused on writing for middle-schoolers. Then I realized that magic is for everyone! My latest book, The Sixth Raven, is a novel for both adults and kids.

I have published 9 books; the following are published as Kindle editions and paperbacks. You can locate the books below through the specific links, or through my Amazon author page,

Review: The Sixth Raven Bruce Rheins

5.0 out of 5 stars A World Of Magic And History

This book is for anyone--adults and especially young adults-- who devoured the Harry Potter series and want more magic and intrigue. Judy Kuhn understands her audience, and writes clearly and engagingly, to create a world where magic exists secretly among a group of young people. Five stars!

Comments from North Dearborn (Indiana) Fifth Graders after reading The Magic Nation Playground:
“The best part of your book is the magic, which I found cool. When (and if) you make a new book, you should definitely keep the magic and history in it.”

"I like how you put Ohio, Indiana, your family, and your life moments into your stories. It helped me relate to the stories more."

“I liked all the stories. All the characters are full of character. I think you should write about more historical moments with some tweeks. Your books are very exciting. You inspire me!”

“I like the suspense. I like mysteries.”

“I like your rhymes”

“I really like the Erik the Red part because I have Erik Davis’ baseball card."

“I believe we should respect the Underground Railroad A LOT MORE!”

“I wish I could go back in time and work on the Underground Railroad and help people.”

“I thought it was a good book because it left us with something to think about.”
